5 European transfers you may have missed this week

It has been a quiet week on the continent this week, with all attention being focused on the signing of Jack Grealish and the announcement that Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona.

Amidst the melee however, 101 take a look at five European transfers that you may have missed this week.

Nicolas Gonzalez joins Fiorentina

Serie A side Fiorentina have strengthened their attack with the signing of Argentinian winger Nicolas Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, 23 years old, joins the club from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, for whom he made 45 appearances, scoring 8 times. The reported fee is in the region of 21 million pounds, as per transfermarkt.com,

Jean Lucas moves to Monaco

Lyon’s departures this summer have continued as Brazilian midfielder Jean Lucas has joined AS Monaco on a permanent deal.

Lucas hardly featured for Lyon at the beginning of the season, making a paltry 8 appearances, lasting a combined 166 minutes, by January. As a result, he spent the second half of last season on loan with Stade Brest, for whom he turned out 16 times, getting 3 assists in the process.

His performances in Ligue 1 have prompted Monaco to raid their French side for his services, reportedly paying 10 million pounds in order to get the deal done.

Javi Galan joins Celta Vigo

It was surprising that more interest did not materialise in Huesca’s Javi Galan. Only Lionel Messi completed more dribbles than the Spaniard last time out in La Liga, even more impressive when you consider that Galan is a left-back by trade.

Comfortable on the left side of a back five or a back four, Huesca’s relegation meant that the Spaniard had a release clause of just 3.5 million euros (3 million pounds). Despite alleged interest from Leeds United, it is Celta Vigo that have snapped up the 26-year-old, tying him to a five-year contract.

It could prove very astute business.

Atalanta sign Merih Demiral

While Tottenham confirmed the signing of Atalanta’s Cristian Romero yesterday, Atalanta wasted no time in sourcing a replacement for the Argentine defender. The replacement that they opted for comes in the form of Juventus and Turkey defender Merih Demiral, who joins the club on loan with an option to buy.

As per transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the deal will reach 30 million euros if the buy option is triggered. It is the second time that Atalanta have turned to the Turin club for defensive reinforcements in as many years, with Romero also joining initially on loan from the Old Lady before joining Tottenham this summer.

Could Demiral be as successful?

Claudinho completes Russia switch

Finally, Brazilian Claudinho has moved to Europe from his native country, joining Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The attacking midfielder caught the eye at the Olympic games, where he appeared six times on his way to helping Brazil win gold. It is thought that Zenit paid just shy of 14 million pounds to acquire the creator from Red Bull Bragantino in the Brazilian Serie A, as they look to win their fourth Russian league title on the bounce.
