20 years in prison for man who killed his 74-year-old mother

20 years in prison for man who killed his 74-year-old motherGrahamstown high court has sentenced a 36-year-old Eastern Cape man to twenty years in prison.

Kwanele Mqeni was arrested in September, 2019 for killing his 74-year-old mother.

According to the Police, in July 2019, Mqeni was first arrested for assaulting his family members at Diphini Locality, Mooiplaas Village, East London.

Mqeni’s mother submitted a statement to the East London magistrate’s court requesting her son to be released.

Her request was granted and he was released on warning on September 2.

On the night he was released, he stabbed his 74-year-old mother.

“He also attacked his disabled elder brother,  however his brother was rescued by the community members,” police said.

Kwanele Mqeni was convicted of murder in the Grahamstown high court on Friday.

He has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.

In another news, Witbank regional court on Monday sentenced a thirty-eight-year-old pastor, Sthembiso Nathaniel Kubheka to 30 years’ imprisonment.

He was convicted on one count of rape and four counts of sexual assault.

The provincial police commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lt-Gen Mondli Zuma, was pleased with the huge years in prison which the court gave to the pastor after he was convicted of sexually assaulting boys.
