Not everyone works on a Tiffany’s budget for Valentine’s day. Even if you are, there’s no need to drop all that dough just to make February 14 an extra special day. As a bona fide lover of all things edible, I am still happy to get something I can nibble, sip or cook with rather than more junk that just takes up space (in case anyone I know is listening).

If you’re looking for tasty food or drink for Valentine’s Day, you’ve made a smart choice and you definitely don’t need to spend a ton of money to get it right. There are mountains of delicious gifts to suit every budget, and we’ve rounded up a few of our favourites.

From rose-shaped wine and sassy conversation candy to addictive condiments and truffles so good you might pass out, these are the best Valentine’s Day food gifts under $25.

Sucrefina

Sugarfina has the market almost cornered when it comes to adorable candies. As a bonus, they all taste great and the confectioner offers some unusual flavors. For Valentine’s Day, get yourself a box of these charming champagne gummies. The price may seem steep for the sweets, but that’s because they’re made with real Dom Pérignon Champagne, flavored with Brut and Rosé.

If bears are too scary, there are also Sugarfina Lips and Rosé Roses to consider.

The House of chocolate

Chocolate on Valentine’s Day? Innovative, I know. But if you’re going to give it, give the good stuff. I love creamy truffles and La Maison Du Chocolat takes the business very seriously. These handmade truffles are not overly sweet, which I prefer, but dense with a rich chocolate flavor. A two-pack is $10 or you can jump for a 13-piece box for $45.

Oaktown Spice Shop

Ditch the Ortega taco seasoning packet and use Oaktown’s delicious Mexican-inspired spices instead. This two-pack includes a bottle of Chili Limón and Rojito Yucatán, which combines annatto seeds, citrus, onion, garlic and cloves.

If the normal convo hearts candies seem a little tame and a bit boring, try a box of the adult version to get a few giggles – and maybe more.

I’m way too dignified to list these sassy sayings out loud, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t ordered a few boxes.

Wash

This citrus-spiced salt is great on the edge of a margarita, but it will also liven up chicken and fish. Pair it with a special bottle of tequila and treat your Valentine to the classic cocktail.

Coasts of Roses

Rosé is already an easy victory for Valentine’s Day, but this Côte des Roses with a rose-shaped bottle bottom takes things a step further. The wine itself is from Languedoc in the south of France with “notes of raspberry and peony”. Icing on the cake, the bottle takes on the appearance of a rose. Tuck one upside down nestled in a dozen roses for the most charming presentation.

This sweet and salty treat is also a cheeky way to let them know you think they’re the best. They can drizzle this honey on everything from fried chicken to cake, but if they’re spicier, there’s also a Bees Knees Hot Honey with habanero peppers.

Smart gardens may get faster results, but in terms of style, they have nothing on this little Japanese indoor planter. Grow fresh mint, basil or sage on the kitchen windowsill and never deprive yourself of it.

Lodge

If your Valentine loves the occasional steak or burger but hasn’t yet tapped into the wonders of cast iron, this is the perfect opportunity to change the course of their cooking forever. Cast iron is the optimal indoor cooking material for most meats because it gets extremely hot and retains heat for magazine cover-worthy burn marks.

Fly by Jing

This isn’t the first time I’ve sung the praises of the mighty crisp chili, and it won’t be the last. This jar of mildly spiced, mildly sweet, and lightly toasted condiments is hard to keep for long, so you might want to put a few on while you’re at it.

For the tea lover in your life who also appreciates minimalism, this ceramic mug comes with a single-serve lid and metal infuser, so they can brew from the same mug they drink. It is available in several solid colors as well as patterns, to suit all styles. And the double-walled design keeps their tea hot and their hands comfortably warm (no burning).

For savory tastes, a set of nice cheese knives is a winning gift, especially if you include a decent piece or two of cheese and a bottle of wine (which you might be able to manage at this price). These modern slicers and servers are available in a fancy gold or matte black finish.

This set of boutique lollipops (flavors include Lavender Lemongrass, Vanilla Hibiscus, Champagne & Roses and Strawberry Basil) are sweet enough already, but don’t throw these sticks in the trash. Put them in soil and they will sprout into various plants, from grasses to blue-eyed flowers. Does this count as buying flowers?

Does it sound a little cheesy to give someone pizza socks for Valentine’s Day? We think not, especially for someone with a healthy sense of humor and a love of pepperoni, of course. (A whole pizza made out of socks is even more amazing, but $1 over the $25 limit.) You can also get sushi socks, if that doesn’t sound too dodgy.

This punny line of sweet date spreads is perfect for lovers with a healthy bent. Free of refined sugar and oils, these vegan spreads are paleo-friendly and perfect for spreading on toast or whatever you like. They are sold separately in chocolate, vanilla, cookie, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice flavors and are also available on Amazon.
