101’s top five Premier League goals of the week, including strike from Chelsea star

The opening weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season is now behind us.

It was the first set of games which saw fans allowed to return at full capacity since back in March of 2020, and those present were certainly treated to some spectacular goals.

There were 34 goals scored across the English top-flight this past weekend, with not a single tie ending goalless.

And now, 101 have picked out our top five from the 34 scored in gameweek 1.

Cucho Hernandez vs Aston Villa

Watford’s return to the Premier League would begin in style.

The Hornets played host to Aston Villa, a side no doubt eager to push for European football this seaosn after finishing 11th the campaign prior.

Dean Smith’s side fell to a 3-2 defeat on the opening weekend, however, with Watford’s 3rd of the day a particular highlight.

Cucho Hernandez received the ball on the left flank, burst forward and then cut inside before bending a superb effort past Emiliano Martinez from the edge of the box.

Mohamed Salah vs Norwich

Like their 2019/20 title-winning season, Liverpool got this campaign up and running against Norwich.

And like two campaigns ago, the Reds would come out on top against the Canaries.

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino had the game all but wrapped up after 65 minutes, but it would be Mohamed Salah’s 74th-minute effort that stole the show:

Luke Ayling vs Manchester United

The opening weekend of the 2021/22 season will be one to forget for most Leeds players.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side would fall to a 5-1 defeat against bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Whites’ one saving grace came shortly after the break in the form of a Luke Ayling thunderbolt:

Trevoh Chalobah vs Crystal Palace

After an impressive pre-season, Trevoh Chalobah was able to play his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans for Chelsea’s season-opener.

The Blues would beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Chalobah’s long-range effort capping off the scoring on the day.

What made the goal even more special was that it came on the centre-back’s Premier League debut:

Heung-min Son vs Manchester City

Finally, Heung-min Son’s effort against Manchester City of course made it onto our list.

The South Korean’s precise, powerful, curling effort was a huge goal for Spurs, earning them a 1-0 victory over the current champions, Manchester City.

It also proved that the Lilywhites are not just a one-man team, and can still function without the services of Harry Kane.
